The WL-606 debuted in the summer of 2012 as a cable exclusively for wireless systems.
NEO recognized the importance of cables in wireless systems earlier than anyone else, and responded to user feedback by commercializing it as a wireless cable.
Since the sound characteristics unique to wireless are different from those of wired systems, the WL-606 series was created solely for wireless use without considering the same development design. With its advanced features and reliability, it still reigns as the representative of wireless replacement cables.
The concept of wireless cables created by NEO is about to be completely overhauled in just four years, and by its own hands.
WL-606II has evolved into the 102 SSC
The key to evolving the WL-606 is the selection of conductors. We tested many prototypes, from the HC-OFC, silver-plated OFC, and tough pitch wire used in the QAC-222 and QAC-222G to the conductor "102 SSC" created by Oyaide Electric. After this testing, we decided to use "102 SSC" as the conductor and shield material, with an emphasis on the flatness of the sound within the range that can be expressed wirelessly.
Sometimes high-fidelity materials run the risk of diluting the density of the instrument, but the flat tone of "102 SSC" was most suitable for distortion-free wireless transmission. Similarly, we selected the size from 0.5sq to 1.25sq, 1-core structure, and 2-core structure, and finally decided on 0.75sq.
Not just the conductor, but a total architecture
It is true that the key to a cable is the conductor used, but it is not everything. The characteristics of a cable are determined by a complex of factors such as the insulator, shielding method, and exterior material.
The insulator of the conductor "102 SSC" is XLPE with low dielectric constant and excellent electrical properties. The core design is based on the already popular 3398 series.
The insulator is surrounded by spiral shielding with "102 SSC". The shield wire uses more conductor than the center. Since the earth has a large effect on the sound output, the path of the ground signal is not neglected, and the same "102 SSC" as the center conductor is used lavishly.
The outer sheath is made of vibration-resistant elastomer material to protect weak signals from vibration interference. In addition, nylon braid is woven into the exterior to prevent touch noise.
The chic look of the WL-606 has been inherited, but the whole thing has been greatly improved.
